Project Description:
The goal of the Strong Workforce Program is to increase the levels of college and career readiness among students which will support their successful transition from secondary education to post-secondary education and, ultimately, to career. 
 
Description of Services:
Students served are provided with work based learning opportunities such as internships, field trips, mentoring programs, workplace tours, guest speakers, and job shadowing. Career readiness which includes mock interviews, job search, job application / resume assistance, career assessments, and professional development workshops.  With a focus on Career Technical Education Awareness and Career Technical Student Organizations (CTSO’s).
 
Project Goals:
In partnership with the Imperial County Office of Education and the SW Consortium, the goal is to increase, expand, and improve the STEM focused CTE pathways throughout Imperial County. IVROP provides Career Exploration & Readiness and WBL opportunities to  Education, Child Development and Family Services, Engineering & Architecture, Information & Communication Technologies, Agriculture, and Health & Medical Technology industry sectors. 
 
Project Outcomes: 
  • Work-based learning opportunities: Provide students with internships, workplace tours, field trips (industry, employer, trade schools, higher education), guest speakers, and job shadowing opportunities
  • Underserved populations: Work with teachers and school counselors to identify and engage underserved and underrepresented student groups (ELs, SED, and SWD) in WBL, CTE, and Leadership Development.
  • CTE 101: Provide students with “CTE 101” type training that helps steer students to targeted pathways.
  • Leadership Development: Provide in-class, after-school, and special event workshops on student leadership skills, professional skill development, and workforce readiness training (employability).
 
Targeted Population:
The targeted population is K-12 students in the Imperial Valley along with the underserved community. 
 
Funder:
Funding for the project is possible by California Community Colleges.
 
Length of Funding:
Funding for Strong Workforce is split up into four different rounds, and each round consists of 30 months.
Round 1: 01/01/2019 to 12/30/2021
Round 2: 06/01/2020 to 12/30/2022
Round 3: 01/01/2021 to 06/30/2023
Round 4: 01/01/2022 to 06/30/2024
