History

The Imperial Valley Regional Occupational Program (IVROP) originated in 1981. It is one of 72 ROC/Ps in California. IVROP operates as a Joint Powers Agreement (JPA) comprising seven districts (Brawley Union High School District, Calexico Unified School District, Calipatria Unified School District, Central Union High School District, Holtville Unified School District, Imperial Unified School District, and San Pasqual Valley Unified School District) and the Imperial County Office of Education within Imperial County.

IVROP was developed to enhance learning and occupational opportunities through effective business partnerships and to meet the needs of students, employers, and the community. During the first year there were three courses offered and about 150 students were enrolled.  This past year, IVROP had 40 courses offered and about 2,500 students were enrolled. IVROP continuously expands occupational courses offered to meet the needs of Imperial County. These courses take place at the various high schools which are part of the JPA. An additional 200 adults are served through courses at the high school level and a few off-campus courses which are targeted specifically for adults.

IVROP collaborates with local business, civic, and education partners to implement a regional plan for Career Technical Education which focuses on preparing all students for postsecondary challenges (college, career, and life). Through various funding sources, IVROP provides over 1,000 youth with meaningful career explorations, work experiences, and – through the IVROP Community Foundation – scholarships to students that support postsecondary success.

IVROP serves as advocate for adults and their families through education, training services and community connections that promote self-sufficiency, economic stability, and family stabilization. Over 2,000 adults and their families are assisted in the pursuit of their educational and occupational goals, through adult career technical training opportunities, employment related services, and family strengthening services such as parenting, relationship education, budgeting and financial literacy.   Through these services, IVROP recognizes that communities benefit from a prepared adult workforce that is more successful and productive when occupational and family needs are addressed.

IVROP is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). IVROP is well respected within the County of Imperial and takes great pride in delivering quality Career Technical Education programs and services.
