IVSSSP

The Imperial Valley Student and School Success Program (IVSSSP) is funded through the California Learning Communities for School Success Program (Prop 47). The purpose of the program is to “support evidence-based, non-punitive programs and practices to keep the state’s most vulnerable pupils in school.” The Imperial Valley Regional Occupational Program (IVROP) has partnered with Brawley Elementary School District, Brawley Union High School District, and Central Union High School District to achieve this goal through three separately funded projects.

IVSSSP has partnered with CalTac PBIS to provide the “evidence-based, non-punitive programs and practices that target vulnerable students” in the district, via the Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) program. PBIS is a multi-tiered support system that works to transform discipline systems from a “punitive” to “restorative” mindset. Many years of research have shown a restorative approach towards discipline works better for all stakeholders involved: students, teachers, counselors, and administrators. To this end, the IVSSSP program has engaged in extensive professional development with teachers, administrators, and counselor within the three districts.

IVROP, through the IVSSSP Program, provides many direct services and activities aligned to the school’s LCAP goals. Direct services for students include co-curricular and extracurricular activities that connect students to their school and support student engagement. Activities include career awareness, Developmental Assets workshops, parent involvement activities, and take-home activities for students and their families.

The three grant run between July 2017 through June 2020.
