Project Description: 

Project ACE staff works closely with the Imperial County Social Services to obtain referrals on behalf of the Child Welfare Department for youth eligible for the program and to create a comprehensive set of independent living programs and aftercare services designed to help foster youth become productive, responsible and self-sufficient adults.

Description of Services:

Project ACE provides participating youth with a variety of services which will include the following: academic instruction, career exploration and awareness, academic and vocational counseling, life skills training, mentoring, transitional housing services, enhanced academic instruction, leadership development, specialized instruction, employability skills and work experience.

Project Goals:

Goal 1: To improve the academic skills of targeted youth.

Goal 2: To provide targeted youth with career exploration activities.

Goal 3: To improve the social, mental, and physical well-being of target youth.

Goal 4: To refer youth to available mentoring programs.

Goal 5: To improve the life skills of participating foster youth.

Goal 6: To provide financial literacy training activities to youth.

Goal 7: To provide older foster youth with skills to become successful adults and link them to housing assistance programs if necessary. 

Eligibility/Targeted participants:

This program services foster youth between the ages of 15 1/2 - 21 who qualify for Independent Living Program Services, youth in foster care and former ILP eligible foster youth residing in Imperial County, including probation wards. The program prioritizes youth that were placed in a foster home, group home or KinGap placement after their 16th birthday.

Funding for this project is provided by Imperial County Social Services - Child Welfare Services.

Length of Funding:

Funding for Project ACE is provided on an annual basis.
