Career Exploration and Awareness

    The career pathway and career exploration activities will help youth receive exposure to various career opportunities and requirements at the entry, technical and professional levels. Youth will also have the opportunity to learn about careers through guest speakers, job shadowing, career courses, field trips to businesses, colleges and the One-Stop Centers. The youth will learn how to develop short-term and long-term plans as it pertains to their chosen career. Students will learn to enroll in the high school courses that will better prepare them for a particular career. Participants will also learn how to select a post secondary education that matches their personal goals, skills and interests.  

How to Look for a Job

Going to work and becoming self-sufficient may be your immediate goal. Even if it isn't, almost everyone at some time will need to look for a job. To find satisfactory employment, you need to:

  • Obtain a Social Security card.

  • Obtain a Work Permit from your school

  • Learn about yourself and careers.

  • Network to discover hidden jobs.

  • Identify potential employers.

  • Apply and get the right job.

Where to Look for a Job

Networking is the single most effective way to get a job. Talk with friends, relatives, neighbors, acquaintances, career center counselors and/or other school personnel about your job search. Click here to find more information on finding a job.
